Initial Bulletin and Information
This meeting will look at the development needs of the outer areas of Bath, and how these parts of the city can be made more sustainable. Issues might include transport, retail and other infrastructure; housing, schools and employment; use of green space and facilities for young people; student accommodation and the use of the three Ministry of Defence sites.
It is timed to coincide with the Council's consultation on options for the Core Strategy, the key planning document for the district for the period to 2026. Although this deals with the whole of B&NES, we feel that the outer areas of Bath have particular needs which don't always get the attention they deserve. The meeting is therefore an opportunity for everyone interested in these areas to have their say about the future.
This session is not about the proposed urban extension to Bath, which is likely to be discussed in other fora, though implications for outer Bath would be relevant.
David Trigwell, B&NES director of planning and transport, will explain the implications of the Core Strategy for outer Bath and outline the steps towards its adoption. Tim Ball, a Twerton resident and Councillor, and Mayor of Bath in 2008-09, will give a view on the development needs of the outer areas. Peter Andrews, chairman of Transition Bath and resident of Bear Flat, will point to the key issues of sustainability. But as in all BetterBath meetings, the bulk of the time will be devoted to discussion between the participants.
Sam Holliday, Editor of the Bath Chronicle, will chair the meeting and draw out conclusions for the Council and other interested parties to consider.
Doors will open at 18.00, when tea and coffee will be on sale. The meeting will start at 18.30, and should conclude by around 20.15. Participants are welcome to continue the discussion informally and wine and soft drinks will be on sale.
